Ongoing Investigations in Form, Material, and Making

The Laboratory is where Pandemic Design Studio explores and refines its unique design language. Furniture and sculptural works provide an open environment for experimentation, allowing ideas to be tested, revisited, and expanded over time.

Aggregation as Design

Aggregation as Design

Rather than treating material as a continuous surface, the work embraces accumulation. Individual components are layered, repeated, and assembled into cohesive forms whose complexity emerges through repetition rather than ornament.

This interest in aggregation remains one of the defining principles of Pandemic Design Studio’s design language. Whether working with wood, ceramics, reclaimed industrial lighting, or modular architectural systems, the studio continues to explore how simple elements can collectively produce experiences that exceed the sum of their individual parts.

Systems of Form

A recurring investigation explores how a limited number of forms can generate remarkable variation through orientation, rotation, and sequencing.

Rather than multiplying the number of unique components, these works maximize the design potential contained within a highly constrained system. Carefully developed forms reveal new relationships, allowing increasingly complex compositions to emerge from a remarkably limited vocabulary.

Material as Expression

When structure, fabrication, and assembly remain visible, the process of making becomes part of the finished object. Exposed steel, structural fasteners, and elegant connections are presented honestly, celebrating the inherent character of each material rather than disguising it.

This approach to visible construction extends beyond furniture and sculpture, continuing throughout Pandemic Design Studio's work wherever authentic materials and methods of assembly become part of the final design language.

Enduring Investigations

Recent concrete explorations demonstrate how investigations developed through furniture and sculpture continue to evolve, translating familiar geometries into modular architectural systems. Pandemic Design Studio doesn't move from one idea to the next. It returns to the same ideas through new materials, new scales, and new applications.

The investigations presented through these furniture and sculptural works continue to evolve today. Rather than pursuing a linear progression, the studio revisits and expands these explorations over time, allowing each body of work to inform the next while remaining connected to the larger design language.
